Our campaign to raise funds for a permanent home for the Bureau of General Services—Queer Division ends at 11:59 tomorrow night, Thursday, December 20th. The Bureau opened its doors on November 15 at Strange Loop Gallery, and now we’re seeking donations to enable us to continue to serve local and visiting queers and friends. We’ve raised over $4,330 of our goal of $15,000. Please help us reach our goal before the end of our all-or-nothing campaign at 11:59 Thursday night!
The Bureau has hosted many excellent events since we opened, including contributors to the I’m from Driftwood project (which collects and distributes LGBT stories of growing up); contributors to the queer online zine In the Flesh (and they’ll be back on 12/19!); Visual AIDS and James Wentzy presenting Wentzy’s short films of writers reading texts about AIDS; Sarah Schulman reading from her new book Israel/Palestine and the Queer International; and Christopher Bram reading from his latest book, Eminent Outlaws: The Gay Writers Who Changed America. On Saturday, 12/15, the Bureau hosted Dr. B, Serge Nicholson, and Tom O’Tottenham of There Is No Word for It, the UK theater project and book (a Bureau exclusive in NYC) of monologues by and about transgender men. And the fabulous exhibition of photographs Electric Eclectic Beauties of the Glorious Nightlife, presented by Strange Loop Gallery and Shane Shane, opened on 12/12/12. The Bureau has selected lovely books, zines, and art works that make excellent holiday gifts.
