Derrick L. Middleton is a Harlem born filmmaker/performance artist. His directorial debut Shape Up: Gay in the Black Barbershop world premiered at President Obama’s White House in 2016 and won the Audience Choice Award at Newfest. His follow-up film titled Lotus Mink is at once a meditation on the construct of black masculinity and a documentary about the creation of his drag persona Lotus Mink.
