IN CONVERSATION : Sarah Schulman,The Gentrification of The Mind: Witness to a Lost Imagination and Distinguished Professor of the Humanities at The City University of New York, College of Staten Island.
In her memoir, Schulman recalls how much of the rebellious queer culture, cheap rents, and a vibrant downtown arts movement vanished almost overnight – replaced by mainstream consumerism – as a consequence of the AIDS crisis.
Visual artists Brian Halloran and Niki Singleton will respond to the key issues of the text through site-specific installation and performance.
